ADDING A DRAMATIC INNOVATION
TO AN ANCIENT SPORT
In 2023, Battle of the Teams began to include to ALL RUNNERS. Together with professional marathoners, recreational runners are taking part in the competition, split into five teams where every runner counts. The event is highly competitive, as it means that each runner in the team can have their own impact on the outcome of the race, even the slowest member . After the huge success of Battle of the Teams, we are bringing this race to all runners in 2024. Enjoy watching the excitement of a team marathon.
JOIN AN ELITE TEAM
In 2024, all Prague International Marathon entrants can participate in the Battle of the Teams. They have a choice as to which team they want to run for. They can choose according to who has the best chance of winning, who is their favourite runner, or who is he team partner.
HOW IT WORKS
Four teams are then formed, featuring six elite runners . A select 4 members of each team will get points which will be assigned using the World Athletics Scoring Table. After that, the larger group of non-professional runners who signed up to be affiliated with each team, will have their times averaged. The scores will be combined to decide a winning team.
WHY IT’S SO COOL
This is not just a new event. It’s a whole new way to approach our sport. Turning the marathon into a team sport adds a huge amount of excitement to the race. One in which every runner matters. Every second matters. It prolongs the drama, it motivates every runner to be their best, and it makes the sport of running infinitely more watchable.
